What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
This trailer uses many key techniques in order to persuade an audience to the film “the social network”. One way that the director has chosen to do is to show some of the main parts of the film. The director has used Todorovs theory and has shown an equilibrium at the start which slowly turned into a disequilibrium. But the key main factor the director has left out is the new equilibrium. By doing this, it makes the audience want to see the movie as they are interested in the film and would like to know what happens to the main protagonist in the film. This is a great of way of persuading customers to see this particular film.

How are men represented in this trailer?
Men are represented in this trailer as being very superior. The start of the trailer we see many pictures of males and females but as we get halfway into the film the trailer the dialogue starts and are introduced by a male character. This is supposedly the main protagonist of the film and he is representing dominant ideology. The director has used him as many of the audiences feel as if they can relate to this character. The character is following the key concepts of being a white male who is properly middle aged , middle of class, heterosexual and is able bodied

On the basis of this trailer, what target audience would be attracted to this film?
In my own opinion I think that this trailer is aimed at potentially 15 – 40 years of age due to the film itself. The target audience is most properly aimed at people who have a facebook account or people who have heard about facebook and want to learn more about it. The age rating for this film is 12A which also indicated what standards the director has made this movie for.  Potentially people in the C1, D & E category would most likely to the audiences of this film.

What Hollywood values and characteristics can you identify in this trailer?
In this trailer some Hollywood values and characteristics are shown through the use of the characters. In the trailer we tend to see a lot of shots in an office and many people are dressed formally. This is a Hollywood characteristic as it representing that everyone means business and show it through the way they are dressed. Another scene that shows Hollywood values is the scene when two characters are in a night club, this shows the more glamorous and partying side to Hollywood characteristics.

  1. A good start to Textual Analysis, but requires a lot more detail. You will need to consider Question 4 a lot more.
